This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
