The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
