The President Welcomes Families of Shot Military Members to White House

Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their honor.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Reaction

Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”

Service arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event prompted the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to speak to his relatives.

Memory of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
