Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
