R360 League Recruits Subject to 10-Year Ban from Australia's Rugby League
The athlete earned 20 caps for the Kiwis before switching loyalty to the Samoan team.
Australian rugby league's administration has stated that athletes who join the “breakaway” R360 league will be banned for a decade.
R360, set to start in late 2026, is hoping to draw athletes from both codes with substantial agreements and a slimmed-down fixture list.
Prominent National Rugby League stars have reportedly been approached by the new league, which will feature six to eight men's clubs and four women's teams based in major cities globally.
Samoa's the player, who is with New Zealand Warriors in the league, has said he has had discussions with the new organization.
Ryan Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be thinking about signing the new competition.
A group of rugby union nations, such as Australia, earlier announced a restriction on R360 recruits playing test matches.
“We've listened to our franchises and we've taken firm action,” stated Australian Rugby League Commission head the official.
“Unfortunately, there will persistently exist organizations that attempt to hijack our game for potential financial gain.
“They fail to contribute in pathways or the development of athletes. They merely capitalize on the efforts of others, putting players at risk of monetary damage while gaining personally.
“In truth, they represent, imitating the sport.”
The organization is co-founded by former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and supported by commercial backers.
After the possible rugby union prohibitions were revealed earlier, it stated: “We seek to cooperate collaboratively as part of the international rugby schedule.
“The event is arranged with bespoke schedules for men's and women's teams and R360 will permit participants for global fixtures, as included in their contracts.”
The breakaway group will seek approval for its proposals from rugby union's governing body, union's governing body, at its official gathering next year.
