‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Homage to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, who directed her in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
A Heartbreaking Event
Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Court Case Developments
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”
A Statement from Siblings
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”
Peers Pay Their Respects
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner with a statement shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the statement said. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
A Storied Career
When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.
Reiner’s celebrated filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
