The British tennis star achieved the most notable success of his career by rallying from a lost first set to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had before overcome Alcaraz on two separate matches, this win marks Norrie's first ever win over a sitting world number one.

"Enormous. So big for me," commented Norrie, who becomes the latest English competitor in the record books to overcome a world No 1. "Bouncing back from injury last year, I fell in the initial match of qualifiers here. I just aimed to enjoy my game in the second half of the year. To get a win like this, it's the greatest victory of my professional life, my first win over the global number one and probably the strongest athlete in the world right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive elite tournament victories, which marked the best series of results in the young champion's developing professional path.

Match Analysis

Alcaraz looked to be moving confidently to success in the beginning as he eased through the first set. Nevertheless, Norrie slowly worked himself into the match by serving with sharper placement and engaging the Spaniard into prolonged, demanding exchanges. His unceasing steadiness and consistency slowly made an impact.

During large parts of the battle, the world number one delivered strong serves but he struggled badly to get his timing right with his rally strokes.
