The original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner Unilever prevented the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he plans to independently develop this new flavor as part of a personal series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing conflict between the world-famous dessert company and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Flavor becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, that closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Current Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that was first established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Future Intentions

The founder revealed that he will create other ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after decades with the organization, mentioning worries that the company's autonomy had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that the company can actualise the social mission, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
