It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing at all," said Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a sense they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as captain.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
